Seven Americans Claim Diamonds in Zurich

INDIANAPOLIS - Seven Diamond League trophies and a world-leading win in the men's 4x100m highlighted competition tonight at the Weltklasse Zurich, the penultimate stop on the Samsung Diamond League.

The IAAF Samsung Diamond League encompasses 32 individual event disciplines, with a points scoring 'Diamond Race' which runs throughout the 14 meeting series. Winners of each Diamond Race will get a Diamond Trophy and a cash prize. For complete rules and regulations, CLICK HERE.

In a gutsy women's 400m race, Allyson Felix battled Debbie Dunn down the home straight, pulling ahead at the end to win in 50.37 to Dunn's 50.57. The win clinched the Diamond League trophy for Felix, the first athlete to lay claim to two Diamond League events following her success in the 200m.

Coming off the final turn in second place, Jeremy Wariner surged down the final straight passing Jamaica's Jermaine Gonzales with 60m to go and never looking back as he went on to win the men's 400m in a world leading 44.13. Wariner earned a $20,000 bonus from the Weltklasse organizers for setting a world-leading time and he also collects $40,000 for winning the points standings in the Diamond League. Gonzales took second in 44.51 and Angelo Taylor finsihed third in a season best 44.72.

The men's 4x100m saw Trell Kimmons, Wallace Spearmon, Tyson Gay and Mike Rodgers blaze the track in 37.45 to beat Team Jamaica, who finished second in 37.76. Their time was .05 seconds off the American record. Earlier in the night, Kimmons won the men's 100m in a personal best 9.95 and Rodgers took second in 10.12, while Spearmon locked up the Diamond League trophy in the men's 200m by winning in a meet record 19.79.

American record holder David Oliver picked up his Diamond League trophy tonight after winning the men's 110m hurdles in a meet record 12.93. After a poor start, Oliver had a clear lead by the third hurdle and stormed down the track leaning mightily at the end before tumbling across the finish line in first.

Three-time World Outdoor champion Dwight Phillips secured his Diamond League trophy in the men's long jump with his win today. Phillips' first mark of the day, 8.20m/26-11, was good enough to outlast his competitor's six attempts and win the competition. Reigning World Indoor and Outdoor champion Brittney Reese was able to do the same on the women's side, winning the competition with 6.89m/22-7.25 to secure her own Diamond League trophy.

The women's 100m came down to a photo finish, with Veronica Campbell-Brown being given the nod over Carmelita Jeter, though both were officially timed at 10.89. Marshevet Meyers took third in a season best 10.97. Jeter had already clinched the Diamond League trophy, which she won with 21 points over Campbell-Brown, who had 14.

Chris Solinksy ran his third sub-thirteen of the season when he took third place in the men's 5,000m in 12:56.45. Solinksy now owns three of the top five times ever run by an American. Galen Rupp finished 12thin a personal best 13:0735.
