Oliver Named Athlete of the Week
INDIANAPOLIS - 2008 Olympic Games bronze medalist David Oliver has been named USA Track & Field's Athlete of the Week for the second time this month for his American record-setting performance in the 110m hurdles at the Samsung IAAF Diamond League Meeting Areva.
After tying the American record (12.90) at the Nike Prefontaine Classic in Eugene, Ore., on July 3, Oliver sliced one-hundredth of a second off that time in setting the record Friday in 12.89. Oliver's world-leading time is only .02 seconds off Dayron Robles' (CUB) world record of 12.87, which was set in Ostrava in 2008.
The 2010 USA Outdoor champion in the 110m hurdles, earlier this year Oliver was the bronze medalist at the World Indoor Championships, and the USA Indoor Championships runner- up in the 60m hurdles.
Now in its ninth year, USATF's Athlete of the Week program is designed to recognize outstanding performers at all levels of the sport. USATF names a new honoree each week and features the athlete on the USATF website. Selections are based on top performances and results from the previous week.
