2004 Olympian and American record holder Teresa Vaill
won the women's race, and Patrick Stroupe captured the
men's title Sunday at the 2008 USA Team Trials - IAAF
World Race Walking Cup in Eugene, Oregon. The top five finishers in each of the 20 km races qualify for
the right to represent Team USA at the IAAF World Race
Walking Cup, to be held May 10-11 in Cheboksary, Russia.
Vaill crossed the finish line in 1 hour 36 minutes 18
seconds in winning the women's race after beating back a
strong challenge from 2003 Pan Am Games bronze
medalist Joanne Dow, who finished as the runner-up in
1:38:36. Susan Armenta was third in 1:39:01, with Sam
Cohen fourth in 1:40:52 and Stephanie Casey fifth in
1:41:47.
Patrick Stroupe won the highly competitive men's race in
1:30:29, with John Nunn finishing as the runner-up in
1:30:50. Two-time Olympian Tim Seaman finished third in
1:32:48, with Michael Tarantino placing fourth in 1:33:11 and
Christopher Tegtmeier crossing the line in fifth place in
1:34:46.
