Team USA to Begin World Championship Competition

BUDAPEST, Hungary - Team USA on Friday will take the track for the first time at the 10th edition of the IAAF World Indoor Track & Field Championships, at Budapest Sportarena. More than 150 countries, a record number for the Indoor Championships, will take part in the meet.

Competition opens Friday at 9:35 a.m. local time with the first round of the women's 60 meters and continues through 8:05 p.m. Finals being contested on Friday include the men's and women's 60m (1st and 2nd rounds and finals), women's shot put (qualifying and final), and women's pentathlon.

Competing in final events for Team USA Friday are two-time world indoor champion Gail Devers and 2003 world indoor bronze medalist Torri Edwards in the women's 60m; 2001 world indoor 200m gold medalist Shawn Crawford and 2001 World Outdoor 4x100m relay gold medalist Mickey Grimes in the men's 60m; 2003 USA indoor and outdoor champion Kristin Heaston in the women's shot put; and 2003 USA outdoor heptathlon runner-up Kim Schiemenz in the pentathlon.

Also on the track will be the first round of the men's and women's 400 meters, men's and women's 3,000m qualifying, and men's and women's 800m qualifying. Field events include qualifying rounds in the men's long jump, women's pole vault, men's and women's triple jump, and men's high jump.
