World and Olympic 400m champion Jeremy Wariner, already the IAAF
World Ranked number one at his one lap gold medal winning discipline,
is now also listed in the 200m Event Ranking. The Texan opted for the 200m at last weekend's USATF Nationals in
Indianapolis, and finished 5th in the final with 20.24 (1225 points).
Together with his heat and semi-final wins (20.28 - 1192 points, 20.35 -
1179 points respectively), this result meant that the 22-year-old joined
the Men's 200m Event Ranking in 21st place.
Former World and Olympic champion Marion Jones is also back,
rejoining the Women's 100m Event Ranking this week, following her
11.10 (1244 points) win at the USATF Nationals, which moved her into
17th place in the Ranking.
Jamaican athletics had a strong week. Long jumper James Beckford
stepped up a place in the Men's Long Jump Event Ranking. Due to
winning in Huelva, Spain with 8.16m (1258 points), the former World
and Olympic medallist moved into 5th place, overtaking France's Salim
Sdiri. On the track, fellow Jamaicans Usain Bolt and Christopher
Williams moved up one spot to 3rd and 4th respectively in the 200m
Event Ranking after World 200m champion Justin Gatlin dropped two
places to 5th after not backing up his national title win from Carson, last
June.
Jamaica also made a strong showing in the Men's Decathlon Event
Ranking. Maurice Smith overtook Aleksey Drozdov and Romain Barras
to move into 7th place after finishing runner up in Ratingen with 8349
points (1223 points).
On the women's side, Jamaican Sherone Simpson returned to the 200m
Event Ranking in 9th place following her win at the Jamaican
Championships in 22.00 (1284 points).
In the Women's Long Jump Event Ranking, Russia's Lyudmilla
Kolchanova overtook Cuba's Yargelis Savigne for 8th place after
winning in Zhukovsky, Russia with 7.10m (1318 points), while Rose
Richmond won the USATF Nationals with 6.93m (1227 points) to move
up four places to 11th.
In the Heptathlon Event Ranking, Germany's Lilli Schwarzkopf stepped-
up four places to 6th as the 22-year-old finished second in Ratingen
with 6413 points (1237 points).
In the Women's Javelin Throw Event Ranking, Barbora Spotakova of the
Czech Republic is now tying with Germany's Christina Obergfoll.
Spotakova won the Czech championships with 65.50m (1212 points) to
improve her average by eight points and joining World Championship
silver medallist Obergfoll in 4th place.
