Dear Friend of Track and Field:
Here is a link to the editorial I wrote for a recent issue of
American Track & Field magazine:
The Title IX Crisis:
Leadership Needed from Ueberroth and Masback.
If you haven't yet read it, you might want to do so before
continuing with this message.
In my opinion, the only way to make progress in changing
the bad aspects of Title IX (and to me Title IX is
overwhelmingly a very good thing) is for the USOC to take
the lead. It's the only entity important enough to go to the
Congress and say, "You need to do somethng about this."
I don't know why the USOC hasn't said anything about Title
IX, but my editorial is aimed at showing USOC why it should
do something -- and do it now.
Me attacking Peter Ueberroth one-on-one is like a bee
attacking an elephant. But if hundreds of bees attack, the
elephant will start to realize he'd better do something.
So, if you want to help get the USOC involved in this issue, I
suggest that you send a copy of the editorial, along with a
brief message -- in your own words -- saying why the
issue is important and urging USOC to take action.
If you do, I'd appreciate your sending a blind copy to me at
jodunaway@earthlink.net to help me keep score with
what's going on in this effort.
I also hope you'll want to pass this message on to as
many people as possible.
