Spivey Leaves Vanderbilt for Full-Time Position with ASICS
December 20, 2005 From Walt Murphy's News and Results Service
Three-time U.S. Olympian Jim Spivey has resigned as the women's
cross country coach at Vanderbilt University and will begin a full-time
position with ASICS on January 6.Spivey, who won the bronze medal in the 1500-meters at the 1987
World Championships, explains his move: "I will be working with
colleges and high schools, getting ASICS product to them and making
them ASICS sponsored schools. I hope my character, my 16-year
relationship with ASICS, my 8 years coaching in the college ranks, and
making a commitment to work with coaches, not only today, but for years
to come, will make this opportunity to work with ASICS succeed. This
will give me more time to spend with my wife, and our three boys of 15,
12 and 6. I hope that I am able to convey my love for the sport by helping
H.S. and college teams through this program."
