Team USA race walkers compete at World Cup

Reigning U.S. men's 20 km champion Kevin Eastler posted a seasonal best time in leading Team USA at the 2004 IAAF World Race Walking Cup over the weekend in Naumburg, Germany.

Eastler finished 26th in 1 hour, 22 minutes, 51 seconds, in leading the Team USA men's 20 km squad to a ninth place finish against the world's best race walkers. Americans finishing after Eastler included Tim Seaman (39th-1:24:21), Curt Clausen (46th-1:25:39), John Nunn (50th-1:26:19) and Philip Dunn (82nd- 1:32:28).

In men's 50 km action, Theron Kissinger finished 53rd (4:55:16), with David McGovern 54th (5:03:36).

Team USA finished 14th in the women's 20 km race, with Deborah Huberty leading the way with her 65th place finish in a personal best time of 1:41:59. Other finishers included Samantha Cohen (71st-1:43:54), Margaret Ditchburn (76th- 1:44:53) and Susan Armenta (77th-1:45:38).

For the first time in the history of the IAAF World Race Walking Cup, 10 km competitions were held in the junior men's and women's division. Team USA's junior men's squad placed 15th led by Zach Pollinger (48th-49:06), Troy Clark (49th-49:19) and Joseph Trapani (54th-56:47).

Team USA's junior women's team placed 14th in the team competition and was led by Maria Michta (29th-53:04), Erica Elaine Adams (39th-54:59) and Catherine Hayes (40th-55:22).
