Athletes Quotes, adidas Oregon Track Classic
June 6, 2004

Verizon Men's 100 Meters:
John Capel, 1st place: "This was one of the best starts I've had in my life. This feels a lot better than last week."

Adidas Women's 100m hurdles:
Jenny Adams, 1st place: "This is just another step on the way to the Olympic Trials. I want to continue to run faster, more efficient and not hold anything back. As I compete more and more, my times will continue to get lower."

Portland Tribune Men's Shot Put:
Christian Cantwell: "I am 'first throw' kind of guy. The first throw is usually the best. You can't ignore these others guys with these 70+ foot throws. If you think I am the favorite after this, then you are mistaken."

"The fans here were quite a treat because they are never this close. It was pretty special to yell and grunt."

"I said last year I would get the world record within four years, but now I am thinking of moving that time table up. Right now my goal is not to get the world-record, but 23 meters."

Alaska Airlines Men's 400M Hurdles:
Ian Weekly, 1st place: "I am just trying to make sure that I am on pace. My strength was there even though it was a bit windy down the stretch, which is why my time was slower. I've just got to tighten up on my technique."

Horizon Men's High Jump:
Jamie Nieto, 1st place: "Things are coming together. This helps me know my coach's training is on point. Things are moving in the right direction."

Verizon Men's Long Jump:
Walter Davis, 2nd place: "Everything has been going good, I have not competed in too many meets, but I have been training a lot. Anyone could have a good day and today I think I did."

Visa Women's 200 Meters:
Allyson Felix, 3rd place: "We are still doing a lot of training. It's definitely difficult to sit back and be patient. I got out there and ran decent. I am no where near peaking right now."

Sunny D Intense Sport Women's 800 Meters:
Nicole Teter, 1st place: "I wanted to work on getting out to a fast start because when you do so, finishing becomes easier."

"This is my third attempt at the (Olympic) Trials and I think it's my year. Two years ago, I started some crazy cross- training about two-three hours a day. Since then, I have been consistently qualifying."

American Track & Field Women's 3,000 Meters:
Amy Rudolph, 1st place: I felt good until our pace maker dropped out before the start. Carrie (Tollefson) and I worked together the first three-quarters of the race. I felt like I got stronger as the race went on. I'm really happy, I'm running well."

Visa Women's Pole Vault:
Mary Sauer, 1st place: "It was a little tough in the beginning with the rain, but I got going once the weather cleared up. We do notice the crowd and there is good energy which helps all the athletes."

American Track & Field Women's Discus:
Aretha Hill, 1st place: "I felt really good, all my family and friends are here from Seattle which was great."

"This is a great meet and I just love coming out here. My training is going really well. I just want to stay healthy and get ready for the next meet."
