New York Marathon results reflected in IAAF World Rankings; Keflezighi climbs to fourth
November 16, 2004
From Press Release

Monte-Carlo - The New York City Marathon supplied most of the changes in the latest edition of the IAAF World Rankings. Susan Chepkemei of Kenya was outsprinted to the line by Britain's Paula Radcliffe. Nevertheless Chepkemei's performance of 2:23:14 (1314 points) was good enough to move her into 9th place in the Women's Road Running - Marathon Event Ranking from her previous position of 20th.

Jelena Celnova-Prokopcuka also moved into the Event Top-20 with her result from New York. The 28-year-old from Latvia finished in 5th place with 2:26:51 (1223 points) and stepped up seven places to 15th, while Lyubov Denisova of Russia took third place in 2:25:18 (1267 points), and improved seventeen places to 30th.

Hendrick Ramaala of South-Africa won the men's race in 2:09:28 (1311 points) and rose 45 places in the Men's Road Running - Marathon Event Ranking to 13th this week. USA's Mebrathom Keflezighi entered the Event Top 10 for the first time in his career by finishing second to Ramaala in the Big Apple. Keflezighi's time was 2:09:53 (1282 points) and he improved from 20th to 4th behind the leading trio of Paul Kirui (KEN), Felix Limo (KEN) and Stefano Baldini (ITA).

Kenyan Benson Cherono crossed the line in New York in 5th place with 2:11:23 (1207 points) and, by registering his third result of the past year, re-entered the Event Ranking in 11th place.
