Aussie Track Star Mottram to Run Healthy Kidney 10K in New York
May 5, 2006
Walt Murphy's News and Results Service

Craig Mottram is quickly becoming the latest international star to become a fixture at NY City running events. The outgoing native of Australia won the inaugural Healthy Kidney 10k last year in Central Park and will return on May 20 to defend his title. He also outkicked Alan Webb to win the Continental Airlines Fifth Avenue Mile last September.

"When I come back to New York for the Healthy Kidney 10K I want to do more than just win it. I want that course record for a 10K in Central Park," said Mottram, 25, who is currently training with countryman Andrew Letherby in Boulder, Colorado. Mottram will be taking aim at the Central Park record of 28:10, set on a similar course by Paul Koech of Kenya at the 1997 Trevira Twosome.

Mottram, who won the bronze medal in the 5,000-meters at last summer's World Outdoor Championships, holds Oceania Records in the mile (3:48.98) and the 2000- (4:50.76), 3000- (7:37.30), and 5,000- meters (12:55.76).
