Shot Put Trio and Hurdle Crew Sweep Field in Madrid

At the 25th Meeting de Atletismo Madrid 2006 in Madrid, Spain, the U.S. made a clean sweep in the men's shot put led by 2005 World indoor champion Christian Cantwell who won the event with a throw of 21.79 meters/71 feet 6 inches. 2006 USA Outdoor runner-up Reese Hoffa followed with a toss of 21.45m/70-4.5, and 2004 NCAA Indoor champion Daniel Taylor placed third with 21.26m/69-9.

2005 World Outdoor bronze medalist Sandra Glover won the women's 400 meter hurdles as the U.S. took the top-three spots. Glover finished in 54.20 seconds, followed by Tiffany Ross-Williams in 54.39 who placed fourth at the 2006 USA Outdoor Championships. 2006 USA Outdoor Championships runner-up Sheena Johnson came in third in 54.52.

2005 World Outdoor champion Allyson Felix was victorious in the women's 200 meters crossing the line in 22.73 seconds while 2005 USA Outdoor Championships 100m runner-up Muna Lee was third in 23.16.

2006 NCAA champion Aries Merritt placed second in the 110 meter hurdles in13.19 seconds as Robles Dayron of Cuba ran away with the victory in 13.08.

2006 USA Outdoor champion Hazel Clark finished second in the 800 meters in 2 minutes 1.78 seconds. She followed Zulia Calatayud of Cuba, who finished in 2:01.03.
