2005 World Outdoor Championships silver medalist James Carter led
an American sweep of the first two spots in the men's 400m hurdles
Tuesday at the Intersport Gugl-Meeting in Linz, Austria.Carter won the race in 49.37 seconds, with fellow American Derek
Williams (49.50) finishing second. Panama's Bayano Kamani was third
in 50.25.
Other U.S. winners in Linz were Jason Smoots in the men's 100 meters
in 10.16 seconds, finishing just ahead of reigning World Indoor 60m
champion Leonard Scott, who was the runner-up in 10.20 seconds.
In women's sprint action, Stephanie Durst won the women's 100 meters
in 11.32 seconds, and Olympic gold medalist Joanna Hayes was third in
the 100m hurdles finishing behind winner Perdita Felicien of Canada
(12.69) and Cuba's Anay Tejada (12.72).
Cuba's Dairon Robles won the men's 110m hurdles in 13.13 seconds,
with 1996 Olympic gold medalist Allen Johnson the runner-up in 13.19,
and two-time Olympic silver medalist Terrence Trammell finishing third
in 13.20. Jamaica's Chris Williams won the men's 200 meters in 20.59
seconds, with Kelly Willie the runner-up in 20.72 and Darvis Patton
placing fourth in 20.84.
