Carter Nominated for Laureus Award

One of America's brightest new track and field stars Xavier
Carter has been nominatedfor the Laureus World
Breakthrough of the Year Award. The winners of the Laureus World Sports Awards, as voted
for by the members of the Laureus World Sports Academy,
will be announced during a televised Awards Ceremony
staged at Palau Sant Jordi, in Barcelona, Spain, on the
evening of Monday, April 2. Carter had a remarkable season in 2006, highlighted by
making history in winning four national titles at the 2006
NCAA Outdoor Championships in the 100m, 400m, 4x100m
relay and 4x400m relay - a feat only previously achieved by
the legendary Jesse Owens. Carter also won the men's 200
meters at the 2006 'Athletissima' Super Grand Prix meeting
in Lausanne, Switzerland in the mind blowing time of 19.63
seconds, which is the second fastest time in the history of
the event. Laureus is a universal movement that celebrates the power
of sport to bring people together as a force for good.
Laureus is composed of three core elements - the Laureus
World Sports Awards, the Laureus World Sports Academy
and the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation - which
collectively celebrate sporting excellence and harness the
power of sport to promote social change.
