Monte-Carlo - The IAAF is pleased to report that all doping
control tests conducted at the recently completed IAAF World
Road Running Championships in Debrecen, Hungary (8
October) have returned negative results.
The IAAF completed a large testing programme at the
Championships with a total of 94 athletes tested either
before or during the competition. This testing included 77
blood screens taken prior to the competition and 17 tests
during the competition (all in-competition samples were
tested for EPO). As usual, all information collected from the
blood screening will be added to the IAAF database to aid in
the individual profiling of athlete blood parameters.
Furthermore, with 141 athletes taking the start line in
Debrecen, these figures mean that approximately 65% of all
competing athletes were tested at this event demonstrating
once again the commitment and resources provided by the
IAAF in this area.
In reporting these results IAAF President Lamine Diack said
"we have just completed a very successful IAAF World
Anti-Doping Symposium where our elite athletes stressed
their commitment to drug free sport, so in this manner it is
particularly pleasing that all these results are negative and
we can applaud the wonderful efforts achieved at this event".
