Larry Wade chalked up yet another win and Alan Webb turned in
another impressive time Monday at the Thales FBK Games in
Hengelo, Netherlands.
Wade picked up his fifth outdoor win in six tries in 2004 by
winning the men's 110-meter hurdles in 13.37 seconds. Robby
Hughes, the 2001 NAIA champion at Life University, was second
in 13.54.
Alan Webb, who like Wade was a winner at the Home Depot
Invitational May 22, became the eighth-fastest American man of
all time in the 1,500 meters with his fourth-place time of
3:33.70 at Hengelo. It is the fastest time by an American since
David Krummenacker ran 3:31.93 in Stockholm in 2002, and
improves on his personal best of 3:35.71, which he had set at
Home Depot. Webb was the only non-Kenyan runner to finish in
the top 6 at Hengelo.
The highlight of Monday's meet came in the men's 5,000 meters,
where world 10,000m champion Kenenisa Bekele of Ethiopia ran
13:37.35 to break countryman Haile Gebrselassie's 6-year-old
world record of 12:39.36.
