Gatlin's Time Adjusted to 9.77, to Equal World Record

It was fast, but apparently not fast enough. After a reread of the results from last Friday's 100 meter race at the Super Grand Prix meet in Doha, Qatar, Justin Gatlin's status was downgraded from world record holder to that of co-world record holder.

Tissot Timing, the company that provided the results for the competition, informed the IAAF, track's world governing body, that the result was 9.766 seconds. According to IAAF rules, the performance should have been manually rounded up to 9.77, and not the 9.76 as initially announced, which would have improved Jamaican Asafa Powell's global standard by 1/100 of a second.

Instead the two are now officially in a tie as the world's fastest man, adding yet another plotline to their fledgling rivalry.
