American men sweep 100m at Doha

Running the fastest time in the world this year under any
conditions, 2004 U.S. indoor 60m champion Shawn Crawford led a
U.S. sweep of the men's 100 meters Friday at the Qatar Athletic
Super Grand Prix in Doha, Qatar. LaTasha Colander won the
women's 200m. The 2001 world indoor 200m champion and 2004 world indoor 60m
silver medalist, Crawford won the 100m final in Doha with a
speedy, wind-aided (+2.6) time of 9.86 seconds. 2003 world
indoor 60m gold medalist Justin Gatlin, who trains with
Crawford, was second in 9.95 seconds, with 2001 World
University Games gold medalist Marcus Brunson third in 9.96. In
the heats, Crawford had run 9.90 (+3.6), Gatlin 9.92 (+3.6) and
Brunson 9.95 (+4.2). In women's competition, 2000 Olympic Trials 400m champion
LaTasha Colander proved she is a contender in the shorter
sprints by running a wind-legal (+.6) 22.50 seconds, the second-
fastest time in the world so far in 2004. 2001 U.S. 100m
