2004 Olympic silver medalist and reigning world decathlon champion
Bryan Clay will lead Team USA at the 2006 Nike Combined Events
Challenge versus Germany August 5-6 at Kansas State University in
Manhattan, Kansas. Clay will be joined on the Team USA roster by Chris Boyles, Joe
Cebulski, Travis Geopfert, Ryan Olkowski, Chris Randolph and Will
Thomas. The U.S. squad will be coached by Kip Janvrin and Mario
Santegna.
The German squad will be comprised of Arthur Abele, Lars Albert,
Marian Geisler, Stefan Hommell, Jacob Minah, Norman Muller and
Johannes Schwuchow.
Team USA defeated Germany at the 2005 USA vs. Germany Decathlon
dual meet in Bernhausen, Germany. The winners totaled 38,548 points,
while Germany amassed 37,144 points in the competition.
Ryan Harlan led the way for the U.S. with his total of 7,919 points, which
won the individual competition. Other U.S. scorers at the event included
Donovan Kilmartin (7,794), Stephen Harris (7,715), Chris Boyles (7,595)
and Travis Geopfert (7,525).
Pascal Berhrnbruch led the German team with his total of 7,842 points,
the second best individual score of the meet. Team USA now has three
consecutive victories in this event, and owns a commanding 9-3 lead in
the series.
