INDIANAPOLIS, IN - Tim Seaman has been named USA Track & Field's Athlete of the Week after setting an American record in the 20 km race walk Saturday at the Vallensbaek Park in Phonixmarsjen, Denmark.

A 2000 Olympian, Seaman walked 1 hour, 22 minutes, 2 seconds to break the previous American record of 1:22:17 set in 1989 by Tim Lewis in Dearborn, Michigan. The three-time U.S. 20 km champion bettered the Olympic "A" qualifying standard for the first time in his career with his win at the prestigious international race. Seaman joins Kevin Eastler and John Nunn as the only three Americans with the Olympic "A" standard (1:23:0) for the 20 km race walk.

The 2004 World Indoor shot put champion, Christian Cantwell posted an impressive world-leading mark of 22.35 meters/73 feet, 4 inches in the ADT men's shot put at the Home Depot Invitational. The former University of Missouri Tiger achieved a remarkable feat by posting six throws over 70 feet, ranging from 21.45m/70-4.5, to his winning throw of 22.35m/73 feet, 4 inches - a new personal record.

Other world-leading marks from the Home Depot Invitational included: Tisha Waller's clearance of 1.98 meters/ 6 feet, 6 inches to win the women's high jump and Shayne Culpepper's 4:06.33 to win the women's 1,500m.

Also, 2003 World indoor and outdoor champion Dwight Phillips jumped 8.44 meters/27 feet, 8.25 inches on his first attempt to win in world-leading fashion Sunday at the Banamex Grand Prix in Mexico City.

Now in its fourth year, USATF's Athlete of the Week program is designed to recognize outstanding performers at all levels of the sport. USATF names a new honoree each week and features the athlete on the USATF website. Selections are based on top performances and results from the previous week.
