INDIANAPOLIS, IN - Colleen De Reuck has been named USA Track & Field's Athlete of the Week after winning the 2004 U.S. Olympic Women's Marathon Trials Saturday in St. Louis, Missouri.

De Reuck, a resident of Boulder, Colo., ran 2 hours, 28 minutes, 25 seconds to come from behind to win and qualify for her first Olympics with Team USA. De Reuck passed American marathon record holder Deena Kastor after the 24-mile mark in breaking Margaret Groos' trials record of 2:29:50 set in 1988 at Pittsburgh. De Reuck, 39, is a three-time Olympian for her native South Africa, who was naturalized as an American citizen in December 2000.

World-leading performers from last week include Larry Wade who set a meet and stadium record in the 110m hurdles, winning in 13.13 seconds at the Texas Relays, in Austin. In addition, Shalane Flanagan ran 8:55.05 to win the 3,000m in Durham.

Now in its fourth year, USATF's Athlete of the Week program is designed to recognize outstanding performers at all levels of the sport. USATF names a new honoree each week and features the athlete on the USATF website. Selections are based on top performances and results from the previous week.
