Abdi Abdirahman was named USA Track & Field's Athlete of the Week after placing fourth in the men's race Sunday at the 2006 LaSalle Bank Chicago Marathon in Chicago, IL.

A two-time Olympian and the first American finisher in the race, Abdirahman lowered his personal best by over two minutes, running 2:08:56 to place fourth overall. His previous personal best was 2:11:24 when he finished fifth in the 2005 New York City Marathon. Abdirahman's fourth-place finish was the highest by an American in the Chicago Marathon since 2002. In addition to winning $25,000 for his fourth-place finish, Abdirahman collected an additional $4,500 from the marathon's American Development Bonus fund.
