ATF Newswire, Vol. 6, No. 21 -- Some thoughts before Day 5

Part-time Friday

*****

Super Clinic had great turnout. Congrats to USATF and Criss Somerlot and crew for putting together the third one in a row at an Olympic Trials.

*****

A little plug for the hoppy place:
"The Best Social Hot Spot of the Trials is the Hind Expo Tent at the Hoppy Brewing Company... Nightly entertainment, coaches etc. Socializing pre & post meet, The track meet being shown on the 10 ft big screen each night, secure parking and the best Trials merchandise of all....a definite Must Attend! Go to www.hoppy.com for directions.... 2100' ft. from the back entrance to the track....Major coaches social on Friday night!!

*****

Remember, great distance clinic at Hoppy's on Saturday AM as well.

*****

The Nike press conference showing of the new USATF uniforms was great, and they had a tremendous athlete line up. Stacy Dragila, Allen Johnson, Justin Gatlin, Jen Toomey, Shalane Flanagan, among others.

All of the athletes were articulate, and dealt with the pr part of the conference, showing off some great new uniforms, but also handling the press pretty well.

*****

Shalane Flanagan's heroic run, the only way in mind that she could make the team, puts her in the category of new start. She ran tough, and she did all that she could to make the team--which she did.

*****

Justin Gatlin is one of the new starts. His lean was just a bit early or he would have given Mo Greene a run for the money.

*****

Not taking anything from Greene--his run was stupendous. He showed all the savvy of a veteran sprinter and he ran through the tape.

*****

Marion Jones will be one of the most watched atheltes tommorow. The problem is, her performance in the 100 meters was pretty amazing, considering where she was a year ago. No one who has any experience in this sport should have been so presumptious to think that a women who has given birth recently, and is running against the best in the world would make the team. That wasn't the use or non use of drugs, that was called less than a year of hard training.

*****

Alan Webb could be one of the great stories to come out of these Trials. We get to see him Thursday, Friday and Sunday. Should be a great show.

******

Watch for our updates. If you have missed anything, just go to www.american-trackandfield.com for all of the past days.
