Erin Gilreath set an American record in the women's hammer throw with a 72.12m/236-7 at the Sun Angel Classic in Tempe, Arizona on April 10. The previous record was 72.01m/236-3 by Anna Mahon in 2002.

In other impressive performances by U.S. athletes over the weekend, Justin Gatlin and Melissa Morrison dominated the headlines at the Sea Ray Relays in Knoxville, Tennessee. Gatlin briefly held the world lead in the 200 meters with his winning performance of 20.21 seconds. Jamaica's Usain Bolt later took over the top world spot in the 200m by setting a new World Junior record of 19.93 seconds in the Bahamas.

Morrison ran the fastest time for an American this year in the women's 100-meter hurdles on Friday, clocking 12.93 seconds, the second-fastest time in the world this year.

Breaux Greer threw the javelin a world-leading 86.83m/284-10 Saturday at the Spec Towns Invitational in Athens, and Kenta Bell moved to #5 on the U.S. all-time list Saturday with his 17.76/58-3.25 triple jump at the Spira Invitational in El Paso. His previous best was 17.63m/57-10.25 in 2002.

Miami's Lauryn Williams ran world-leading marks in the 100 (11.01) and 200 meters (22.46) at the Gatorade Classic in Miami.
