Edwards, Montgomery shine at Fort-de-France

Torri Edwards and Tim Montgomery sprinted to victories Saturday at the Meeting IAAF du Conseil General de la Martinique in Fort De France, France.

Edwards was victorious in both the women's 100 meters (11.12) and 200 meters (22.66). In the 100m final, she held off Nigeria's Mercy Nku (11.30) and fellow American Teneeshia Jones (11.44).

Montgomery won the 100 meters in 10.08 seconds. The next two finishers were Nigerian Aaron Egbele (10.11) and American Brian Lewis (10.15). Maurice Greene posted a time of 10.18 to win his qualifying race, but withdrew from the final due to injury, the IAAF reports.

Other winners on the men's side were Larry Wade (13.26) in the 110m hurdles, who held off 1996 Olympic gold medalist Allen Johnson (13.32); Jimmie Hackley in the 200m (20.31 - Race #1); Terrence Woods (2.24m/7-4.25) in the high jump; Walter Davis (8.20m/26-11) in the long jump and Russ Buller (5.60m/18-4.5) in the pole vault.

Other female winners included 2000 Olympic bronze medalist Melissa Morrison in the 100m hurdles (12.63 world leader); Sandra Glover in the 400m hurdles (55.0) and Grace Upshaw in the long jump (6.62m/21-8.75).
