
USA Outdoor Track & Field Championships (Carson, CA)

1. Two-time defending champion Tim Broe shattered the
Championships record in the men's 5K with his winning time of
13:12.76, leading three men under Doug Padilla's 1985 mark of
13:16.42.
2. On her final attempt, Erin Gilreath unleashed a throw of
73.87m/242-4 to break her own American record in the hammer and
post the top mark in the world so far in 2005.
3. Elizabeth Jackson, the 1999 and 2002 U.S. champion in the
steeplechase, overtook American record holder Briana Shook in the
last two laps, winning in 9:39.78 (the #3 U.S. time in history).
4. Kerron Clement won the 400 hurdles in a stunning time of
47.24 seconds, the fastest time in the world since 1998, and the
seventh-fastest time in history.
5. Justin Gatlin's 100m win on Saturday, combined with his
200m win on Sunday, made him the first man to win U.S. 100 and 200-
meter titles in the same year since Kirk Baptiste in 1985.
6. Allyson Felix's winning time of 22.13 in the women's 200m
beat her own previous 2005 world leader of 22.14, run on the same
track at the adidas Track Classic in May.
7. Sanya Richard's winning time of 49.28 in the 400 meters,
followed by the second and third place finishes of Dee Dee Trotter
(49.88) and Monique Henderson (49.96), respectively, marked the first
time in history three American women have broken 50 seconds in the
same race.
8. In the 110 hurdles, 34-year-old Allen Johnson crossed the
line in 12.99 seconds, his fastest time since 2003 and the fastest in the
world in 2005, to win his seventh U.S. outdoor title.
9. Georgetown alum Treniere Clement ran a personal best and
the fastest time by an American this year in the women's 1500m,
winning in 4:06.73.
