
USA Cross Country Championships (New York, NY)
February 18-19, 2006
1. New York high schooler Nicole Blood added to her Van
Cortlandt Park resume that includes three Foot Locker Northeast
Regional titles and a course record by winning the Junior Women's 6K
in 20:45.
2. Recapturing his first USA cross country crown since winning
both the 4K and 12K in 2000, Adam Goucher out-kicked Daniel Lincoln
to take the 4K title in 10:50.
3. Blake Russell ended two-time defending champion Colleen
De Reuck's reign as the women's 8K queen by pulling away from De
Reuck over the final loop to win in 26:47.
4. As expected, Dathan Ritzenhein (#11), the
defending champion,
jumped out to the front of the pack in the men's 12K.
5. But unexpectedly, it was Ryan Hall, bouncing back from a
third place finish in the 4K the previous day, who pulled away from the
field to win comfortably in 34:38, 27 seconds ahead of runner-up Jorge
Torres.
6.Carrie Tollefson, a 1500-meter star, won her first
USA Cross Country title with a 12:32 in the 4K, five seconds
ahead of second place finisher Lauren Fleshman.
7. In a race that was dominated by young
collegians, Iowa State freshman Kiel Uhl was the surprise
winnner in the Men's Junior 8K, pulling away over the final
loop to victory in 23:50.
8. Sarah Krakoff of Boulder, CO won the Women's
Masters 8K championship in a time of 31:27, defeating
Kathryn Martin (Northport, NY) by an 8-second margin.
9. Masters Men's 8K winner Patrick Fuller from Eugene, OR
pulled away from Sean Wade (Houston, TX) for a 26-second victory.
